On personal development, mindful productivity, creative lifestyle design, and figuring it out as you go

Hey there, Brilliant!

It’s hard to believe we’re almost a quarter through the year! This quarter had been quite a whirlwind for me, and I’m still not quite settled. I’ve had moments of second-guessing my approach, of wanting to quit my weekly video schedule, of questioning the direction of my business. I’m finding that when there’s no boss telling me what to do, or that I’ve done a good job, it’s easy to feel disoriented and discouraged when things get challenging.

Bringing back my self-care, bit by bit, has helped me avoid totally burning out. I’m back to jogging (I’m working back up to daily), doing my regular tidy around the house, and even left my apartment work-cave a couple times to engage with other human beings in the flesh! I’m not up to my usual self-care cadence just yet, but being able to take a little time to recharge and reset throughout the week has been a relief.

Progress can be slow, but I’m trying to keep steady. I feel very close to having a sustainable rhythm to my production and business workflows, which is exciting. Looking forward to the warmer weather, the cherry blossoms, and seeing what spring will bring!

Spiritedly,
Ahsante

The problem with the internet that no one is talking about
This astute analysis from Struthless summarizes how the attention economy runs counter to an artist's ability to develop their work and create expressively. This sums up why I'm much more interested in being an artist than a pure content creator.
How John and I Talk About Ideas
Hank Green talks about how he evaluates what ideas are worth pursuing as he and his brother spin up new ventures. He gives some fun, interesting terms they've come up with to categorize their ideas.

Life Admin: How I Learned to Do Less, Do Better, and Live More
By Elizabeth Emens

My view of admin will never be the same. This book is a thorough investigation of the types of admin we encounter on a regular basis, how various types of people handle it, and how we might craft a society where it's less burdensome.

This is packed with useful strategies for getting admin done more effectively and knowing when not to do admin. Complete with an admin personality test - I'm a Super Doer!

What's been keeping my productivity boosted
  • OneTab (Chrome Extension). If you have roughly a zillion tabs open in your browser right now, this is the app for you. With one click, OneTab converts all of your tabs into a list of links that you can easily view and reopen as needed.

  • Backblaze. This is what I've been using for years to automatically and continuously back up my computer and hard drives. Backblaze stores data in the cloud and will also send you a replacement hard drive if you need to recover all your data. As a digital business, I appreciate the peace of mind that comes with knowing all my content is backed up as soon as I create it.
